It's pretty simple, actually. The US is not ready to encompass the full nature of what humanity can really offer. It doesn't even try, these days. There are wide swaths of this country that really don't understand why ecstacy or questioning authority, much less questioning reality, would be of any use at all.
Makes it all the easier to convince them never to do so.
